The Northeast Japan Earthquake Restoration Fund
Supporting Affected People and Communities through Arts and Heritage Projects

We extend our sincere condolences to those people affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami, and pay tribute to the aid workers and volunteers who continue to work tirelessly on the frontline of the relief effort.

Japan has witnessed a disaster unprecedented in the post-war period; the most powerful earthquake in recorded history and the resulting tsunami devastated communities along the Northeast coastline and claimed the lives of more than 12,000 people with over 15,000 still missing. The aftermath has forced almost 160,000 people to relocate to crammed shelters with precious little food and support. Many of them have lost their loved ones as well as their livelihood. They are left searching for hope.

Kigyo Mécénat Kyogikai (KMK: Association for Corporate Support of the Arts, Japan) has set up The Northeast Japan Earthquake Restoration Fund to support people and communities affected by the disaster. We have twenty years of experience leading an initiative to promote art and culture with our partner companies and we wish to use this expertise to aid the relief effort as best we can. We believe that the arts can help people get through these difficult times, contributing to the wider process of restoration and recovery. The Fund will enable a range of projects designed to comfort and support people, preserve fragile local heritage and restore damaged cultural resources.

KMK is committed to playing a leading role in the use of arts and heritage projects to help people look ahead and rebuild their communities and lives. We would most appreciate your support and contribution to this cause.
